Ann Elizabeth Terrell, called Betty in the family-tree notes, was born in 1695 in New Kent County, Virginia. One record cited in the notes says that she was “born” in the Freshes of the Pamunkey, an area described there as north of the York River near the Pamunkey and Matiponni rivers.

She was the daughter of William Richmond Terrell and Martha Susannah Waters Terrell. The notes also refer to her mother as Susannah Waters Terrell. No christening record was found in the material provided.

Ann Elizabeth reportedly married David Lewis in New Kent County in 1717. The notes state that they had eight children, although only seven children are named in the supplied family links: David, William Terrell, Susannah, Hannah, Sarah, John Terrell, and Joel.

In 1734, David Lewis reportedly received the first patent west of the Rivanna River. The notes caution that there would not have been a home there for some time.

Ann Elizabeth died in 1734. Her death is recorded as Hanover County, Virginia, but the family-tree notes question whether she may instead have died in Albemarle or in Hanover Town, Virginia.

Historical context

The supplied notes place Ann Elizabeth Terrell Lewis in early eighteenth-century Virginia, with reported ties to New Kent County, Hanover County, the Freshes of the Pamunkey, and the area west of the Rivanna River. The location of her death remains uncertain in the notes.
